Focus and Scope
Philologia is an undergraduate research journal housed and operated at Virginia Tech and open to submissions from any ACC university. The publication features research from any subject that falls under liberal arts and human sciences subject matter, and features a few creative pieces as well. We publish articles from undergraduate students focusing on many different subjects, speaking to the versatility and importance of liberal arts and humanities research.
Philologia has published articles on an incredibly wide range of subjects, including literature, linguistics, international relations, political policy, sociology, music, and modern culture, amongst other areas of the liberal arts. We believe our journal demonstrates the value and scope of a liberal arts education and we continue to showcase the importance of undergraduate research in the field.
At Philologia we aim to publish the best liberal arts undergraduate research and give a platform for students to showcase their greatest work. Publication is a wonderful way to engage with fellow students and other readers with your ideas and to enter into a larger scholarly context on liberal arts topics. If you are selected for publication you will not only have your work featured in our journal but will also have the opportunity to present your work at the journal’s unveiling every spring.
If your work is selected to be featured in Philologia you will join a group of undergraduate students with fantastic and insightful research who have been published by Philologia before. The opportunity for publication cannot be underestimated, and we at Philologia hope to publish and promote some of the best research out there done by Liberal Arts undergraduates.
We hope our authors and readers enjoy the content of our journal and grow in appreciation for undergraduate research and the liberal arts. Expect to find thought-provoking, powerful, and topical research within the pages of Philologia.
The journal is published once a year in April. Our submission period typically takes place between August and the end of October each year. Submitters are notified by December of the status of their piece.
