5 Polish is said to have exceptions to this rule, as in Amérika, fonétyka, and matemátyka. These are explained through restricted extrametricality (Archibald, 1994), although Hayes & Puppel (1985, p. 63) point out that this only occurs in formal styles of speech, with penultimate stress being realized in colloquial registers.
